How To Use and Navigate the Cobblestone Info Base
The Cobblestone Info Base is a complex project with between 900 and 1000 structures now that all of North America is included. The following "How To Use" tips will help you navigate this extensive collection.
- The Cobblestone Info Base is not designed to be viewed on a small display device such as a smart phone. For best results view on the larger display of a PC or Mac desktop, laptop or larger iPad. For best viewing expand the display window to the full screen size. The displayed information will auto resize to the selected window format.
- Each cobblestone structure has a unique page containing all presently imported information about that structure. Equal emphasis is given to existing and no longer existing structures.
- To access structure pages, the Home Page Index gives access to the hierarchy of menus, typically State/Province --> Town/Township/City --> List of structures. Each menu provides a "Home" link back to the Main Page Index.
- County and town maps are provided for nearly all New York State structures. The town maps have marked structure locations that are clickable links to the appropriate structures. Links to maps are provided on the County and Town/Township/City menus, and each structure page. Permission has not yet been obtained to include maps of other states and countries.
- Unless otherwise noted, the exact location of each structure is noted with GPS coordinates. Embedded Google Maps satellite view and Google Maps street level view (when available) are provided for each structure unless otherwise noted. The provided street address is either a USPS address (not verified) and/or property parcel address (verified).
- A Reference Information section link on the Home Page provides access to articles, publications, and general information about the unique cobblestone structure architecture and history.
- All photographs displayed are full resolution and have not yet been optimized for internet display. Please be patient when pages load and allow all photographs to completely display before executing any page links. Illustrations and photographs are typically displayed in the timeline of oldest to latest. Unless otherwise noted, all photographs are attributed to Robert L. Roudabush. Clicking on the link below each photograph will display the image enlarged in a new window. Click on "<" or equivalent in your browser toolbar to return. If you download any photographs, please include attribution (credit) if the photographs are used for any purpose other than personal use.
- There are links to digitized books or pamphlets. Links from the structure pages access information specific to that structure; therefore, please limit browsing as you must use the "<" key (or equivalent) in your browser toolbar as many times as necessary to return to the structure page, or click on the "Home" links to return to the home page. A pdf digitized version of a book may also be available in the Reference Information, "Publications", section for browsing. A linked table of contents or index may be available for some digitized books.
- Please respect the private property owner rights if you visit cobblestone stuctures.
- The Cobblestone Info Base is a complex project in progress with some tasks having priority over others. Some links on the home page may not yet be active, or the accessed content is either incomplete or not updated.
